Fresh Start to another day in Paradise.........cafe?

Ever go into Starbucks and see coffee from Costa Rica and your mind starts to wander to beautiful beaches, ocean surf, tropical flowers and exotic birds. But bring your mind back to the coffee grown in Costa Rica. Coffee is one of the primary industries in Costa Rica in addition to bananas and tourism. Costa Rica has set Central and South American standards for premium wet-processed coffee. The Tres Rios region near the Pacific produces coffees that are mild, sweet and bright; the Tarrazu region produces a relatively heavy coffee with more aromatic complexity. The La Minita estate is the most sought after coffee in all of Costa Rica.

If you are a coffee lover and traveling in Costa Rica, you will notice that all places serve premium, robust coffee. It is one of the many pleasures of visiting Costa Rica. The next time you are in Starbucks sipping Costa Rican coffee, enjoy!

Over the seven years I have been in Jaco Beach, I enjoy sitting on the beach sipping Costa Rican coffee watching the beautiful sunset over the ocean. My real estate customers always comment on the delicious coffee in Costa Rica I guarantee it will wake you up in the morning!

President Laura Chinchilla signed a joint declaration of a 10 year strategy to reduce the crime in Costa Rica. She promised to boost public security spending by 50 percent. The security minister said that over the next 3 years they will spend an estimated $250 million to combat organized crime and drug trafficking.

To help modernize Costa Rica’s police force, 13 members of Colombia’s National Police are here training Costa Rican officers on public security tactics, part of a joint Colombian-Costa Rican law enforcement exchange that could last two years.

Delicious New Restaurants in Jaco

We have recently had some amazing new restaurants open up for this High Season in Jaco Beach! Some of my favorite new hot spots are Graffiti and The Seaside Diner (The Fish Shack during the day).

Graffiti is an intimate Restaurant and Wine Bar located in the Pacific Center, in front of Cable Tica. The food, atmosphere and wine are all fabulous, with great appetizers including fresh salads, savory crustinis and an array of mini gourmet sliders.

The Seaside Diner features an eclectic menu ranging from fancy bar snacks and delicious fish and chips to elegantly prepared filets and top-notch fresh seafood. The restaurant has a full bar, upstairs and downstairs dining, and also a day time “Fish Shack” which mainly serves their signature fish and chips. Check out their website: http://www.seasidediner.net

I have already been to both of these restaurants countless times since they have opened and I have a strong feeling they are going to get tougher and tougher to get into with all of the positive buzz around town!

New Theater in Jaco Beach!

Teatro Jacó, a new theatrical production company, based in Costa Rica, presented its opening show in the exciting beach town of Jacó. “Jamaica Farewell,” is an award-winning, one-woman autobiographical show written and performed by Jamaican Debra Ehrhardt. The show opened Jan. 27th in the rooftop bar at Jacó’s Canciones del Mar Hotel.

Daystar Properties in Jaco, is constructing a 150-seat theater in their Ocean Center cultural facility, and with this opening of that establishment, Teatro Jacó will be able to flourish.

Darren Lee Cole, the creator of the Jaco Theater Company, said future plans for Teatro Jacó include creating performing arts programs in local schools, as well as a community theater group. He said the group wants to build relationships in the artistic community and expand its audience by producing bilingual shows and performing on alternate nights or weekends. Cole is not yet certain of what Teatro Jacó’s next show will be, however he said he is hopeful it will be in English and Spanish.

Tourism at All Time High in Costa Rica

In 2010 Tourism in Costa Rica reached an all time high with a record breaking 2,099,829 tourists for the year. As a result, The Costa Rica Tourism Board is extra motivated and is now increasing travel to Costa Rica promotion in the US and Canada.

In January, The Tourism Board contracted the Advertising Agency 22Squared to promote Costa Rica in The United States and Costa Rica and they are very excited about the opportunity and the challenge.

The vice president and director of brand planning at 22Squared is very confident in Costa Rica, and while recently describing the attraction of this beautiful country he said, “It’s eco-friendly, it’s educational, it’s affordable, it’s so many things that are right on trend for [North] Americans right now.”

From “No Artificial Ingredients” to “Pura Vida,” and from health-care tourism to being considered the “World’s Happiest Country” in 2009 by the Happy Planet Index; Costa Rica has a lot of weight in its brand name.

So start planning your next vacation to Costa Rica and check out what all the hype is about!
